alWILLENH ALL, WEST Midlands-based Aspray 24 has applied for authorisation to base 25 vehicles and four trailers at a new operating centre on the Deacon Trading Estate in Eastleigh, Hants.
The firm — which changed its trading name from Aspray Transport in May — says the 18,000ft2 site, which will house 34 employees, is ideally situated for the port of Southampton.
Aspray has also opened a 14,000ft2 facility, with a 14-strong fleet and team of 28 staff, at White City in west London. In May, the firm also launched a freight forwarding division, which it believes will help bolster its turnover.
However, the transport firm closed its Camberley, Surrey, facility on 6 August, making 38 employees redundant and transferring nine staff to other sites.
Aspray says its lease was due to expire and it had outgrown the depot. The firm posted a pre-tax profit of £901,230 for the year to December 2009, compared with 001,814 for the same period in 2008.
Revenue, however, slipped 9.5% to £20.9m from £23m, which the firm attributes to the majority of customers shipping less cargo.
