Words: Steve Banner SALES OF EURO-3 trucks are healthy in the north of England thanks to demand from those operators who rarely travel to the south-cast, says Paul Diamond of Mercedes-Benz dealership Road Range.

From 2012 onwards, compliance with the Euro-4 regulations will be mandatory for trucks entering the London Low Emission Zone on pain of a financial penalty.

Road Range has outlets in Liverpool, on Deeside and in Llandudno, and Diamond says that he is happy to stock 2006-vintage Euro-3 trucks to cater to the local market. The presence of analogue tachographs and the fact that they do not require AdBlue increases their attraction to many customers, he adds. The factor that really appeals to buyers, however, is their cost "A 2006 Euro-3 Actros 2546 tractor unit's price begins with the figure two, and a 2007 Euro-4 2546's begins with the figure three," he says. "It's a big difference," Nor is the demand for Euro-3 from canny northern buyers causing the price gap to shrink. "If anything, it's widening as Euro-4s get pricier," he reckons, 1111
