Advancements in technology combined with a E6m annual fuel bill have influenced Dodds Group's decision to purchase five 460hp Mercedes Actos with Telligent Autotrans automated transmissions, The company has been using automatics for the past three years and, according to managing director David Pink, it was the benefits offered by the Mercedes version that swung the vote.
'Though we did look at several different manufacturers, including Volvo and Daf, our five-year association with Mercedes combined with the repair and maintenance package offered swung the decision. The drivers like the user-friendliness of the Telligent transmission and we believe it delivers superior fuel results over traditional manual boxes."
Driver comfort was also taken into consideration, an important issue when it comes to retaining and recruiting staff, says Pink. All Actroses have been specified with the larger MegaSpace cab option and steering wheel-mounted telephone controls for hands-free operation.
