ADmong the final five finalists for the Scania Transport Trust Awards is this fine 1924 Super Sentinel steamer, restored to its present glory by Richard Straughan of Cumbria after an eventful history. It was supplied new to the Penrith and District Road Carrying Company. In 1932 it fell into a ravine and lay in a waterfall until 1955 when a burst dam turned it upside down, and there it remained until its rescue in 1988. Tell me something. If Straughan can take the rusted, smashed remnants of a 60-year-old vehicle and put the wreck back into full working order, why does my local grease monkey have so much trouble with my Rudge bicycle?
