Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• ERF launches its EC rigid range at the Scottish IRTE Show this week, alongside a revised ES cab. The two, three and four-axle rigids include tipper and drawbar chassis, with an option of Cummins and Perkins Euro-1 engines.

Day and sleeper-cabs all have four-point steel suspension; like the tractors they will be offered with three trim levels: Standard, LX and Sovereign.

Standard includes a mechanical suspension driver's seat, adjustable steering column and wipe-clean trim with rubber floor mats. LX trim comes with airsuspended seat, electrically operated nearside window, soft trim and carpeting on the engine cover. Sovereign trim, available only on sleeper cabs, offers refinements including sprung bunk mattress, electric windows, radio/cassette and seat belts.

A one-piece bumper replaces the five-piece from the tractive units and the ground-to-frontbumper-height is increased for off-road use. ERF claims an approach angle of 24°.

Engines span the 157-250kW (210-335hp) range, using Cummins B, C, L10, and Perkins Phaser and Eagle engines. Gearboxes include Eaton synchro and constant-mesh boxes, with the TwinSplitter and SAMT available with the Cummins L10 and Perkins Eagle engines. ZF synchromesh boxes are available as an option.

Rockwell S153 and 5160 single-reduction hypoid axles are available with single drive axle models. Multiaxle models use Rockwell RT-44-153 double-drive bogies with cross and interaxle cliff-locks. All are plated at 19 tonnes with a standard axle spread of 1.37m.

Single front axles are plated at 8.0 tonnes while twin-steer front axles are plated at 7.1 tonnes each. ZF 8098 power steering is used on all models.

Front suspension is by steel springs on all models with single front axle rates designed to match the cab suspension. Long taper-leaf springs are used with an anti-roll bar and telescopic dampers throughout the range.

Standard rear suspension on 4x2 models is steel with an air option for drawbars.

Multi-wheelers use Hendrickson Norde rubber as standard with the option of ERF two-spring steel or Hendrickson Norde air. Design weights run from 17 tonnes GVW for 4x2 models to 35 tonnes GCW for drawbar combinations: 6x4 chassis are plated at 26 tonnes with 8x4s at 32 tonnes. The EC8.27 lightweight 8x4 with Cummins C.275 is aimed at the tanker market.

ERF has incorporated its special vehicle options (SVO) into production-line build and can offer options including 6x2 rigids for drawbar operations and a range of lift and trailing axles.

Modifications to the ES steel cab range include re-trimmed cabs and EC front suspension. ERF will not take the new Steyr cab which is destined for the new MAN middleweight and Steyr will continue production of both cabs.
