Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

15 tons gross

)NE of the chassis that will be seen on the Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz stand will a model specifically designed for market; by Magirus-Deutz Concessionaires Ltd. the UK, and another will be a right-handive version of a chassis introduced by 2 German manufacturers at the Frankfurt Low last year.

The model designed specially for the UK arket is the Magirus-210 D 22 FL which is double-drive six-wheeler and will appear i the stand as a long-wheelbase rigid for tons gross and probably on the demonration park also as a tractive unit plated for i tons gross train weight. In general, the odd is based on the 235 D 22 previously ailable in the UK but it has the latest sign of tilt cab which has a flat front. In ermany a sleeper cab is standard on the ;5 D but for Britain a normal-depth forrd-control cab is required and, to fit this, V8 engine is used instead of the V10.

The engine is a Deutz direct-injection unit th a capacity of 11.63 litres and an output • 210 b.h.p. at 2,300 r.p.m. and 542 lb.ft. roe at 1,400 r.p.m. A ZF AK6-80 sixleed gearbox and a two-speed splitter box used in the transmission. ZF power steerg is standard and braking is by an airessure system with the secondary system )plied to the driving axles.

The recently introduced Magirus-Deutz odel is the 150 D 14 and this is to be shown as a tractive unit for 29 tons gross train weight, in which case "FS" is added to the model number. This chassis has the Deutz V6 air-cooled direct-injection diesel with a capacity of 8.73 litres. Maximum output is 150 b.h.p. at 2,300 r.p.m. and the maximum torque is 383 lb.ft. at 1,300 r.p.m. Like the V8 in the six-wheeler, this direct-injection diesel was introduced at the last Frankfurt Show and another similarity to the 210 D is that a floor-mounted gear-change lever is provided instead of the column change used on earlier models; a ZF AK5-35 five-speed box is used in the 150 D. The brake-system design is again special for the UK and, while air-assisted hydraulic service brakes are employed, spring-brake actuators are provided for parking and secondary braking; the handbrake is dispensed with but part of the mechanical linkage to the driving axle is used in the spring-brake system and application of a hand-reaction valve discharges the air from behind the springs and for secondary braking applies pressure to the semi-trailer auxiliary connection.

The same secondary and parking brake system is used for a third vehicle to be exhibited by Magirus-Deutz. This will be a Magirus 200 D 16 FS tractive unit plated for 36 tons g.t.w. It will have the older-style curved front cab and V8 indirect-injection 12.7-11tre engine which produces 200 b.h.p. The gearbox is a ZF AK6-72 six-speed unit with steering-column gear-change.

CHANGES announced this week by Leyland Motors Ltd. in its range of Comet and Super Comet trucks include the introduction of a 15-ton Super Comet specifically designed for use as a tipper or truckmixer chassis and the use of a fixed version of the Ergomatic cab as standard on all Comet and Super Comet models, with the availability of the tilt version of the cab on the Super Comet 16-ton range. Some of the luxury trim is deleted on fixed-cab models but there is no change in the general design.

There is also a modification to the binnacle carrying the instruments on fixed-cab models and both the Comet and Super Comet for export can be supplied with "split" windscreens.

There has been no alteration in mechanical specification and the new 15-ton-gross model is similar to the 16-ton-gross machine. An 0.400 engine drives through a five-speed gearbox (with other units available) and a single-speed or a two-speed axle is obtainable. Whilst power steering is standard on the 16-ton chassis it is optional on the 15-ton model and the braking system is air-pressure actuated with an air-assisted handbrake for the secondary system.

Wheelbase of the new model—which carries the designation Super Comet 15.SCIS.1R—is 10 ft. 9 in. and with a 3 ft. 4 in. rear overhang the frame length behind the cab is 13 ft. 3 in. and the overall length 18 ft. 3 in.
