Southern Scotland.

AT the Southern Scotland Traffic

Commissioners' sitting in Edinburgh on September 7th, the bulk of the applications, which are in respect og stagecarriage services, will be made by W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., the Central S.M.T. Co., Ltd., and the Western

Co., Ltd. Applications by the London and North-Eastern and London, Midland and Scottish Railway Companies for emergency services will meet with some opposition.

Northern.

A NUMBER of applications for the

variance of licence conditions will be made at the Northern Traffic Commissioners' sitting at Newcastle-onTyne on September 8th. Stage-carriage services will constitute the chief business of the day.

At Redcar, on September 9th, a large number of backings for excursion licences will be sought, whilst at Newcastle, on September 10th, the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd., will practically monopolize the Commissioners' time with applications for stage-service licences. Stage services will be mainly concerned at the sittings at Stockton, on September 13th, Darlington 4.11 September 14th, and Barnard Castle on September 15th.

West Midland.

STAGE-CARRIAGE services will comprise a considerable proportion, of the business to be dealt with at the West Midland Traffic Commissioners' sitting at Hereford on September 6th, whilst a number of applleations in respect of excursions and tours will also be made.

At the sitting at Shrewsbury on September 8th, a further large batch of stage-carriage applications will be made. At both these sittings the applicants will be chiefly small operators.

Birmingham Corporation Watch Committee figures prominently amongst those making representations in connection with applications to be heard at Hanley on September 13th. Yorkshire,

TEE United Automobile Services,

Ltd., will make numerous applications at the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners' sittings at York on September 6th. Several operators of long-distance services, including those from Glasgow to London, Newcastle to London, Edinburgh to London and Newcastle to Liverpool, will seek backings for their licences.

The list for the September 13th-14th sitting (Sheffield) has now been published.

North-Western.

THERE will be a considerable amount

of objection to the granting of licences at the North-Western Traffic COmMiSsioners' sitting at Blackpool from September 5th-Pth, when Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., will make a large number of applications in respect of stagecarriage services. Several corporations will be amongst the applicants.

The latest gazette contains details of the Lancaster sitting, fixed for September 12th-15th, when the Ribble concern Will oppose many independent applicants.

East Midland.

_ARRANGEMENTS have now been made for the Nottingham sitting, commencing September 13th. The Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., will be opposed by railway interests in connection with some excursion applications, and several independent long-distance services will be objected to by the railways. At this sitting the Green Line London-Aylesbury application will be opposed by Mr. C. E. Holmes.

Eastern.

ANOTHER sitting at which there will be considerable opposition is that of the Eastern Traffic Commissioners, to be held at Cambridge on September 14th-15th. Several corporations, the L.N.E.R., L.M.S.R., and the Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd., are included amongst the objectors, and the majority of the applicants will be small operators. Western.

AT Gloucester on September 14th and 15th one of the important cases will be the application by McShane's Motors, Ltd., Liverpool, for a new express service between that city and Torquay. It is opposed by the L.M.S. and G.W.R. undertakings, also by Elliott Brothers (Bournemouth), Ltd., Greyhound Motors, Ltd., Black and White Motorways, Ltd, and the Ribble concern.

Southern.

A BUSY programme is announced

for the Winchester sitting opening on September 13th, which will probably last for four days. A good many of the applications are in respect of established services, over which, there will be little cause for argument, but some of the excursion applications by private undertakings are listed as being subject to objection, not only by combine' and railway-associated operators, but also by other independents.

South Wales.

STAGE-CARRIAGE services will be the chief matter for consideration at the South Wales Traffic Commissioners' sitting at Haverfordwest on September 14th-15th. The names of several concerns well known in South Wales appear in the list of applicants.

Metropolitan.

TUE Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner does not propose to hold a public sitting during the week commencing September 5th. Details are now published for the September 14th sitting, however, which is likely to extend until the 16th. Some express services will be the subject of counter claims. The L.G.O.C. and Green Line undertakings, for example, are opposing Mr. L. B. Atkins, of Crowborough, in regard to his express-service applications for the CrowboroughLondon route, whilst the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., and the Southern Railway are opposing Mr. A. W. Bangham, Margate, in respect of his Ramsgate-London express-service application.
