A FTER the defending solicitor had ttsubmitted that the alleged offences took place in areas beyond the jurisdiction of the court, a Sheffield bench adjourned sine die the hearing of 22 summonses against three hauliers concerning breaches of licence conditions.

L. D. Hadfield (Haulage), Ltd., Montgomery Terrace Road, Sheffield, were said to have used for other goods vehicles licensed to carry opencast coal. Oughtibridge Transport Co., Ltd., Avisford Road, Oughtibridge, were summoned for taking steel to Wolverhampton in vehicles authorized to run for only 40 miles. There were 15 summonses against Messrs. A. Watmough and Sons, Arthur Street, Sheffield, for contraventions of the conditions of their B licence.

Defending, Mr. G. A. Bolsover said that the vehicles concerned did not carry any load within the area of the jurisdiction of the court and they could not be committing an offence. The-adjournment was granted on the application of Mr. E. Wurzal, for the Yorkshire Licensing Authority

G.M.C. FACTORY IN PAKISTAN

AN assembly and manufacturing plant has been opened on the Sind industrial trading estate, Mangopir, Pakistan, by General Motors. The plant covers 21i acres, of which only 8 acres are built upon at present, with a main factory covering 125,000 sq. ft. Initially confined to bus bodybuilding and the assembly of goods and passenger chassis, the plant has a capacity of 6,000 vehicles a year.

PAY CLAIM REJECTED THE claims for a wage increase and improvements in working conditions for the 100,000 employees of provincial bus companies and B.T.C.controlled undertakings has been rejected. After a meeting on Tuesday, the National Council for the Omnibus Industry stated that the difference which existed between the two sides of the industry was to be referred to a conciliation committee.

DUNDEE DISPUTE ENDS

DRIVERS and conductors of Dundee Transport Department decided last week-end to resume overtime working. On July 18, after new schedules which the employees considered would cause unnecessary hardship had been introduced, the men staged a token strike. Despite a promise by the Corporation that anomalies would be investigated, they refused to work overtime.

SHELL 4,000-GALLON TANKER AN A.E.C. 4,000-gallon tanker has been put into service by Shell-Mex and B.P.,. Ltd„ following official approval of this type of vehicle. The tank was built by Thompson Bros. and the cab by Duramin. In running trim, the vehicle weighs 8 tons 8 cwt. 1 qr. Tyres 36 x 8 are fitted to reduce weight.
