Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Martin Brunt of Frome, Somerset-based AJ Brunt was driving chipped Volvo FH12 when CM called. The original '420' D12 engine was remapped by Powertrucks to produce 500hp fiv years ago and according to Brunt: "It's not been a problem." The company currently runs six trucks on low-loader work ar Brunt reports: "Before I had it chipped. I was getting only 66.5mpg. Now returns are closer to 8.1-8.5mpg, which is very good." Brunt had the Volvo's engine chipped while it was still warranty, and has no regrets. He says, however, that it's impc tant to let the motor warm up and cool down properly at the Si and finish of each run. "It's still performing well," he says, adc "It occasionally smokes a little if I try and pull away in too high gear. But then again, it is coming up for six years since it was done, and it still goes like a train."

Mark Bassi', managing director at airfreight specialist Goldstar Heathrow, spent a long time searching on the intern for a chipping specialist before choosing Powertrucks. He eventually had three vehicles chipped two Actros 2540 tractors, which were remapped from 400 to around 460hp, at a Volkswagen LT35 van. So far, the experience has been very positive. "The drivers had been saying that the vehicles were pulling, and they were having to change down on gradients, which meant they were using more fuel. The tractors were delivering around 8.0mpg. Since being chipped, they go up ; down hill all day much better, and we've seen no deterioratior in fuel consumption." Bassil says the little LT35 also acceleral better through the gears up to top speed on the motorway. All three engines were chipped out of warranty, although Bass ii says he would happily have a new vehicle remapped. He poi out, however. that: "Chipping an older vehicle makes more sense, as there are no warranty issues and it's beginning to lo performance. Yet with chipping, you get a new truck back. I'd definitely dolt again."
