Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Five men who have been investigated for an alleged £750000 fraud on international hauliers are expected to be remanded on bail again while the Crown Prosecution Service continues its assessment of the evidence. This is unlikely to be completed before the expiry of their latest bail term on Tuesday.

The delay in the CPS decision on whether to bring charges is attributed to the complexity of the West Yorkshire police case, which encompasses alleged fraud against Continental as well as UK operators.

A decision is now expected by the end of the year. All five were connected with two Leeds freight forwarders: South Elmsall-based Allied Imports, and Akcent Europa from the Stourton Container Base.

Both companies have ceased trading.

The fraud squad has looked into allegations that the two companies ran up debts totalling up to 4750,000 with 60 international hauliers, although the forwarders were paid by customers. Staff from both companies disappeared during summer 1993.

French haulier Norbert Dentressangle lost most: it is owed £75,000.
