BELFAST TRAFFIC DOWN: CUT IN SERVICES

ACUT in frequencies on several

routes is planned by Belfast Transport Department following a drop of lm in the number of passengers carried on trolleybuses in the first half of the current financial year.

Although there has been a fall of more than lm. in the number of passengers on motorbuses, it is understood that motorbus services will not be affected. Alterations were made in the evening schedules several months ago.

ROAD TO REPLACE RAIL

AS an economy measure, road services are to replace 600 miles of railways serving the goldfields and the wheat belt of Western Australia.

Abandonment of the lines will also save expenditure on modernization of the railway system, which, last year, had a deficit of fA4.6m. The departmental committee. on whose recommendation the State Government are acting, suggested the closing of at least 1.500 miles of line.
