ZERO HOUR FOR MINISTRY'S HAULAGE ORGANIZATION

AT the time of going to press, no official announcement had been made concerning the future of the Road Haulage Organization of the M.O.W.T,, and as to whether or not the vehicles in it will be released.

There have been prophecies that this form of control will end early in 1946, but last Tuesday the Ministry denied having made any official announcement. A decision, however, is due, for it must be made within six months of the official termination of the war, otherwise the agreement automatically, lapses.

TRANSPORT CAFE OPENED IN SHEFFIELD

DRIVERS and other transport workersvisiting the Sheffield area will be glad to learn of the opening, tomorrow, of Kitson's Transport Café, Herries Road, Sheffield, 6. This is also a hostel, and provides organized parking facilities. The, opening ceremony will be performed by Major Eastwood, R.T.C. for the North-Eastern Area.

EXPORT LICENSING FORM REVISED

ASIMPLIFIED form of application for export licences will be brought into use by the Board of Trade when supplies can be printed.

It is still an offence to consign goods to anyone in the current "Trading with the Enemy (Specified Persons) Orders," or to any territory to which Regulation 7 of the Defence (Trading with the Enemy) Regulations applies. These; at present, include Germany, Japan, Rumania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Siam.

NEW ADVERTISEMENT MANAGER FOR TEMPLE PRESS

AFTER six years' ',service in the R.A.F., Mr. Eric N. Adlington has been appointed advertisement manager of Temple Press Limited. He will be responsible for co-ordinating the advertisement policy of the Temple Press group of publications.

Joining the company in 1926, in the years immediately preceding the war he was advertisement manager of " The Aeroplane," " Light Metals " and " Plastics," and, previous to that, was, at various times, on the editorial staffs of " The Motor," " Motor Cycling ". and "Thu Light Car."

He wilt continue to act as advertisement manager of the first three papers mentioned until the return from the Forces of further members of the staff permits the appointment of others to these journals.

EX-SERVICEMEN TO GET BACK A AND B LICENCES

EXCEPT where their businesses have been sold, sympathetic consideration will be given to applications for A or B licences from operators, who held such licences before the war, and who had to give them `up owing to being called up, or other good reason.

Similar attention will be given to such applicants for licences to acquire goods vehicles. This information was given, last week, by Mr. A. Barnes, Minister of War Transport, in reply to a question put by Mr. Butcher, in the House of Commons.

Prices of all vehicles are ex-works, Dagenham, and include spare wheel and tyre. • R.H.A. SETS UP RATES COMMITTEE

THE Road Haulage Association has appointed a rates committee. Its functions will be to supervise generally the activities of the Association in regard to rates; to co-ordinate the work of and to advise and assist functional groups,. functioiral committees and area rates committees when negotiating fixing or dealing with rates; to main tam contact with the Road and .Rail Central Conference through the Road Panel; to confer with the M.O.W.T, or any other Government Department or other bodies; to negotiate and fix rates as necessary; and, generally, to take all such steps as may be practicable and desirable to insure consistency and economic stability in connection with rates charged and conditions of carriage observed by hauliers.

The committee met recently for the first time and appointed Mr. F. F.

Fowler as its chairman. Mr. F. L. Sabatini, the Rates and Charges Officer, reported upon the work in connection with rates which had been done by the various functional groups, committees, etc.

The committee will . meet regularly, and as a result of its deliberations members of the industry will be guided and helped in their efforts to maintain economic rates. Special attention will be paid to rates for commodities such as bricks, cement, livestock,, milk, sand and ballast, sugar-beet, etc.

RETREADING GIANT TYRES WE understand that the retreading of VY giant tyres has been decontrolled, with effect from November 1. This will be good news to many commercial vehicle operators.
