Some dozen firms exhibited motors of the commercial type, and one-third of the space specially set apart for themwe refer to the detached building on the left of the main hallwas occupied by the Experimental Department of the Prussian Transport Service, which sent a " train " consisting of a couple of wagons with trailers : the one a N.A.G., with a four-cylinder engine of some 24h.p., adapted for benzine, alcohol, or petroleum, and able to carry not far short of so tons; the other a 22h.p. Daimler, adapted for the same fuels, and capable of moving loads of the same weight. Next in position came the Scheibler Company, of Aachen, which exhibited two goods vans, and also a delivery van, and an omnibus for 12 persons, in the main

Stoewer Brothers, of Stettin, were represented in this section by a goods van ; elsewhere by a couple of omnibuses for 12 and 24 persons respectively, each vehicle with four cylinders and a 24h.p. engine. H. Bindewald, established at the

Hessian town of Freiberg, showed a three-axle goods van built on the " Albrecht " patent. It has a 24h.p. benzine-alcohol motor, and carries so tons at a maximum speed of so miles an hour. Motor and gear hang on special double springs, and are so coupled with the main driving axle that an elastic means of transmission, such as cardan or chain, is unnecessary. The front axle is driven, yet on bad and heavy roads the two rearmost wheels can be connected up with the driving gear, whereby skidding becomes reduced to a minimum. Pressure on the steering wheels is independent of the wagon weight, as they work as on a leading carriage pole. The makers claim the system to be particularly suited for military purposes. We hope to return to II. Bindewald's exhibit on a future occasion, giving a description of it with illustrations, As to the Siiddeutsche Automobil-Fabrik's productions, which

have already been fully dealt with in our columns, we need only mention the fact that, besides a goods van in the "Halle der Lastwagen," two omnibuses, one light and the ather heavy, found a place on the stand in the main building. Switzerland was represented by the Orion Company, of Zurich, which showed a two-cylinder 2oh.p. lorry, with rubber tyres on the front wheels, and steel on the back. Kessel and Siebemann, of Basel, another Swiss house, sent two lorries, each with a two-cylinder 14h.p. patent motor (No. 30,7961, having magneto ignition, water-cooling, chain drive, and three speeds with reverse. Their carrying capacities are s and 1.5 ton. The upper part of the lighter vehicle can he lifted off and replaced by the body of a brake for carrying so persons.

The N.A.G. commercial exhibits numbered three : a light delivery van with polished wood body, brass mountings, and an 8h.p. engine; a two-cylinder 8-9h.p. lorry for the transportation of milk ; and an iron-shod lorry with a I0-12h.p. engine, constructed for a load of three-four tons. Both the latter vehicles participated in the trials of the German Agricultural Society, as well as those organised by the ( lerman Automobile Club, and refiec.ted great credit on their makers. A steam van, the " Cvklop," of the International Motor Import Company, Strasburg, was exhibited by the Auto-Salon Wiesbaden (A. von Goutta, Wiesbaden). From the Daimler works came an omnibus of the type now familiar in Fngland, one hundred having been already delivered there, and some hundreds being on order ; a four-cylinder x8h.o. van to carry five tons: also the chassis of a 4h.n. light delivery ;In intended to bear a load of 2 ton.
