A Hertfordshire firm has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 n fines and costs following confusion over tachograph use. Wilkes Wheels of 1.eavesden, Herts appeared before Hendon magistrates to plead not guilty to using a vehicle when the tachograph was not used and of failing to preserve tachograph records.

Prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, Anthony Ostrin said that on 11 July last year one of the oompany's vehicles was stopped in a roadside check. The driver, James Lynch, was asked to produce his tachograph record for the current journey but was unable to do so. Director Wiiliam Fonfe said the truck was not a goods vehicle and was being used by a third party at the time. Out rnaOstrates were satisfied that it was a CV and that the company was operating the vehicle.

The company was fined £300 for each offence with £408.30 costs.
