TWO technical papers of great topical interest were read during the annual conference of the Public Transport Association, atTorquay, this week.

MR. G. W. HAYTER, 0.B.E., M.I.Mech.E., M.Inst.T., general manager of the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd., dealt with the effect of present-day conditions on the design and operation of public service vehicles.

MR. S. H. EDGE, chief engineer and assistant general Tanager of the Clayton Dewandre Co., Ltd., chose as his subject the heating and ventilation of public service vehicles.

DISCUSSIONS on these papers will be reported in "The Commercial Motor" next week.

COACHES for several trips were supplied by the Devon •General Omnibus arid Touring Co., Ltd., and some of the delegates visited the company's works and depot in Torquay. NEARLY 35,000 vehicles are operated by members of the Association, of which Mr.-W. T. James, 0.B.E., is the chairman. He is also chairman of the Devon General, among other companies in the B.E.T. group.
