A New Type of Folding Screen for Fitting to Each Row of Seats. .

UP TILL now very few attempts have been made to provide motor coaches with a protecting screen to each row of seats. L. C. Rawlente and Co., Ltd., of 40, Sackville Street, London, W., can certainly claim to have " done much in this direction for the benefit of coach passengers.

It may be recalled that. last year the company fitted up an experimental set of screens on a large motor coach belonging to Messrs. Sandford Bros., the Lewisham proprietors, who had this particular vehicle running almost daily able wing at each end. The division in the centre of the frame is to provide strength, and, incidentally, probably prevents rattle which might be noticeable with an extremely long glass. The screen is carried on sliding sockets on two uprights, which rest on the floor, and are attached to the top of the back of each row of seats. The stud on each socket registers with a bole in a special bracket, which holds each upright at the top of the back of each seat, and when the screen is up it is by these means securely fixed to the brackets.

When not in use the screen slides down the uprights, until its top is level with the-top of the back of the seat, in which position it is well above the floorboards, and, therefore, not liable to kicking by passengers. The wings, it will be seen, are also made to fold inwards, and, when .not, in use, are accommodated in front of the centre screen. A special feature of the screen is that it takes up very little-room; as a matter of fact, it projects in all less than 2 ins. from the back of the seat, and, there. fore, does not interfere to any appreciable extent with passengers getting in or out of the seats.

The complete screen can be fitted to any type of coach, and the fact that the company are in a position to supply it at a reasonable figure will appeal to many motor coach proprietors.

Tourist Motor Coach Tickets.

THE motor coach industry is developing so rapidly that even those who are actively engaged in the trade are apt to miss the milestones on the way.

When motor coaching first became popular only one method of quoting fares was in vogue—that of quoting a single charge for the round trip. Early last season passengers on daily services were given the ,option of booking either for the singlO or the return journey. Then earns the "long" return ticket, enabling passengers to use the return half of their ticket. any time within three months, provided that a day's notice of it being lima was given.

Probably within a few weeks' time The Commercial Motor will be able to make the definite announcement that a northern firm of coach owners, who are at present considering new routes, have decided to issue tourist tickets. Their idea is to run coaches daily through an immensely popular holiday district, touching scores of places of interest, in the course of a 50-mile circular tour. Tickets will be issued at so much each, but will have this distinctive feature— passengers can break the journey at whatever point they like, and as often as they cheese, soslon.g as they complete the journey within 14 days.
