Japanese truck maker Hino is

gearing up for an assault on the

UK market by expanding its network Andy Salter repors.

TOYOTA-OWNED TRUCK manufacturer Hino is recruiting UK truck dealers as it prepares for a major assault on the UK's commercial vehicle market.

A number of ex-Foden dealers have been targeted, with four currently signed up and a number of others set to join the ranks by the time of the CV show in April. Hino is aiming for a total UK network of approximately 20 dealers.

Acorn Truck Sales, based in Crayford, Kent, is one of the first dealers to sign up and its oneacre site already bears the new Hino signage.

-Acorn became a Foden Dealer in 1990," says Russell Rackham at Acorn Trucks, "and since then we've built up a very loyal customer base. To say Paccar's decision to 'retire the brand' came as a surprise would be an understatement."Ammwillcontinue to support its Foden customers as a parts and service dealer.

-The quality of Hino's engineering has always been high, but what really caught our attention was the involvement of Toyota [now a majority stakeholder in Hino]," Rackham adds.

"We have no doubt that new Hino' underToyota will provide us with competitive products. We also believe from our previous experience of the brand that we shouldn't expect warranty work to provide much revenue for our workshop!"

Although the current Hino range in the UK is limited to the heavy-duty 700 Series, there are ambitious plans to launch a full range of products from 3.5 tonnes up to 44 tonnes GVW within the next three years.
