Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A trailer park-brake control developed by Neate Brake Controls combines a straight rack with a repeat stroke action which gives an automatic increase in leverage at the end of each stroke. It will pick up approximately 3in. of cable per stroke. The control costs approximately 25 per cent less than the comparable rotary action system.

Information display

Ewell Court Electrical Ltd has produced a communication system designed to display and signal information. The system consists of a master unit, located at the operation end that is linked via a cable to a slave unit at a central control or supervisory point; in a large organization it could be situated some distance away.

A group of 30 bright display lamps on the master unit have individual switches, each lamp being numbered with a blank space for legends. Operation of any lamp switch on the unit is shown on both master and slave units.

In a typical application a machine operator would indicate completion of a particular job, that further work was required or a break-down of his machine by pressing the appropriate switch. Uses could include indication of vehicle availability in a transport pool, stock shortages in warehouses or supermarkets and staff in /out movements. Both master and slave units are housed in steel wall-mounting cabinets finished in steel and hammertone charcoal grey with blue and black lettering.

Dimensions of the master unit include a width of 2O-in., a height of 11 in. and a depth of 54in; the slave unit has a width of 16iin., a height of llin. and a depth of 31-in. Snap-in lenses in five coding colours can be replaced from the front; a lamp failure extinguishes the corresponding lamp in the other unit. There is no limit to the number of units that may be installed.

The master unit can be used on its own, or with one, two or three slave units.

Hole cutters

Unicut is the name of two variable hole cutters that have been added to the SykesPickavant Ltd range of products. Designed to produce cleanly cut holes in materials up to 2mm thick, the new tools are particularly suitable for use by auto-body repairers and mechanics.

The tool provides the facility for cutting holes of varying diameter from iin, to win. without damaging the surrounding area or paintwork. It is designed for use with standard industrial electric or air-operated drills with a minimum chuck size of fin. and best results are achieved when operated at a chuck speed of around 900 rpm. The maker recommends that the cutters are used with a coolant. Resharpening is done in the same way as that applied to a twist drill.

Model 410 has a range of dia, while the range of model 411 is „rin./in. die.

Price: Model 410 £3; Model 411 £5.

Uprated blower

A modified version of the 68 type

R BS Holmes positivedisplacement air blower with a 25 per cent higher output has

been developed for the pneumatic discharge of bulk carrying vehicles. At its maximum rated speed of 2400 rpm and a pressure of 13 psi it now has an output of 750 cu ft/min of free air. It is known as the size 68 RBST7.

Modifications include a redesigned timing gear lubrication system. It can be fitted with various attachments to meet specific requirements and is interchangeable with earlier types of size 68 machine. Made by W. C. Holmes and Co Ltd, Turnbridge, Huddersfield HD1 6RB.

Cab lining

A range of self-adhesive fabric and plastic materials have been introduced by the Marine Products Division of Arno Adhesive Tapes.

The self-adhesive materials are clean and simple to work with — the material can be offered-up into place a number of times to ensure a perfect fit prior to the removal of the protective backing paper for final positioning.

The materials also provide an element of sound-proofing and minimize condensation problems. One of the materials sandwiches a close-cell foam between decorative trim and the adhesive for additional soundproofing and condensation prevention.

Elimination of impact adhesives also minimizes fire hazards Operators can work continuously without pausing to allow the fumes to clear.

Material widths are up to 24in. and roll lengths of up to 30yds. are available. Price from 98p. per yard.

Scopeless engine tester

A catalytic exhaust gas analyzer with a range 0/10 per cent carbon dioxide is included in the equipment of the Allen scopeless petrol-engine tester of American origin which is now available in this country from Carlomatic Ltd. The tester can be used by the average garage mechanic to check an engine and its ancillaries during normal servicing.

Fully transistorized and having interchangeable integrated circuit boards, the tester incorporates a programmed push-button system, automatic scale indication lights, 8in. wide-range meters and a single harness with clip-on connections. The consale of the tester can be suspended or mounted on a cabinet or wall.

Ranges of the instruments comprise 0 to 18V (secondary kV, 0 to 40) ampmeter readings of 0 to 90, 0 to 300 and, if required, 0 to 600 amps; 0 to 1500 and 0 to 6000 rpm; 0 to* 12 psi; 0 to 25in. Hg of vacuum; a timing advance of 0 to 60 deg of crankshaft rotation 10 to 80 deg if required) and 0 to 50 and 0 to 500,000 ohms. Cam-angle dwell is 0 to 90 deg.

The advance meter and regulator are built into the timing lights while the electronic selection system provides a cylinder balance of —25 per cent to +25 per cent. Calibration is not required before testing.

Shipping weight of the tester is 130 lb.
