rONCERN at what was happening to
Government payments for lime haulage was expressed at Carlisle last week by the Northern Licensing Authority, Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon. Mr. Hanlon said he suspected that, in some cases, companies were taking 10 per cent., and other middlemen were taking another 10 per cent., before the contract reached the actual haulier who delivered to the farm spreaders. This meant he was getting less than the Government was paying out.
Mr. Hanlon was considering an application by Mr. David Harrison, of Round Hill, Silloth, for a limited B carrier's licence for one vehicle to carry lime in bulk within 110 miles of Silloth.
Mr. Hanlon said be was satisfied that, in this case, the Government lime subsidy was not being divided.
A B licence was granted, to carry bulk slag and lime to spreaders for F. Brown, Ltd., subject to the surrender of Mr. Harrison's C licence.
