Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AWARNING was given to the Road Haulage Association by Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, the Northern Licensing Authority, in Carlisle last week.

Mr. Hanlon was hearing an application by a Cockermouth haulage contractor, Mr. James Colin Lee, who, when asked where his present haulage licence was, replied that it was with the Road Haulage Association.

Mr. Hanlon then warned: "I do not propose to hear any applications in future if the applicant does not produce his licence. I am not prepared to .look through my files for these licences. This warning should be passed on to the Road Haulage Association."

Mr. Lee was granted a variation to a BI4 B licence for a tipping vehicle to carry building and road materials within 30 miles of Cockermouth and " slurry " from West Cumberland to Barrow. The grant was subject to the surrender of the applicant's Contract A licence with J. Cunningham and Sons, Cockermouth.

ROAD-CONDITION BROADCASTS

THE B.B.C. have for some time been studying the possibility of broadcasting special bulletins about traffic and weather conditions, and hope to overcome what difficulties, if any, remain. Stating this in the Lords last week, Lord St. Oswald, on behalf of the Government, emphasized that "programme content" was a matter for the B.B.C.
