WHEN she first of the applications IT was heard in Birmingham, last week, Mr. R. Stuart Filcher, West Midland Licensing Authority, revealed that 250 applications hal been received in the area from operators wishing to convey passengers to the Festival of Britain in London.
After granting an express-service licence for a one-day annual outing for Alcester shop assistants to the Festival, he refused four applications for new excursions and tours. These four applications were strongly opposed: almost 50 objections had been filed by other operators and by the Railway Executive. The Authority deferred decision on six applications to vary existing expressservice licences to enable Festival. of Britain passengers to be carried.
