SCUNTHORPE manufacturer Weightlifter has designed a lighter steel bath tub trailer combining Hardox and Domex steel from SSAB Swedish Steel for the scrap metal market.
Hardox, an abrasive metal used for the floor, walls and headboard, is combined with 21 ribs made from Domex, a high-strength steel historically used for making truck chassis.
Introducing Domex to the bodywork has never been done before, says Weightlifter director David Thomson. “It takes out a tonne from the body weight without any loss of strength; it’s brought the average kerb weight down to 8.2 tonnes.” The product has gained attention from the bulk scrap metal recycling operators and nine of the first 10 trailers due off the production line have been sold.
The trailer will debut at Tip-ex 2011 (10-12 June) at the Harrogate International Centre, Harrogate, North Yorks.
