Not quite the golden nugget that is the snatchback market, the fire sale, normally due to the boss of a haulage firm losing the will to continue the daily drudgery, retirement, or a lost contract, can provide the opportunity to buy some nice rolling stock for the forecourt. Although it’s never nice to see an established family name disappear from the UK’s roads, the guilt is always offset by the fact that the money raised goes to a good cause. The Saturday sale, synonymous with Malcolm Harrison Auctions, is a fine way to spend the weekend. Although the current Mrs Dealer tends not to agree, the turnover and profit raised from these events go some way to keeping Mrs D in the manner to which she is accustomed. Job’s a good ’un.
