DUNLOP/PIRELLI

The directors of Dunlop Holdings Ltd have announced the trading results of the Dunlop Group and of the Dunlop/Pirelli Union Companies for the year ended December 31 1971. The profit attributable to Dunlop shareholders at £11 Am is well above that for 1970. "Although the Union did not come into existence until January 1 1971,says Dunlop, "the 1970 'results' have been adjusted to illustrate the notional situation if the Union had existed in that year." Sales of Union Companies to outside customers were £970m 11970: £959m1 1 per cent 'higher than in 1970; but for the adverse effect of exchange rate movements the value of sales would have been £1024m above 1970. Volume of sales was 3 per cent higher than last year. Dunlop /Pirelli Union profits after taxation amounted to £21.60m 11970: £16.13m). The agm will be held on June 19 at Hotel Meurice. 16 Bury Street, London SVV1Y EIAJ.

Cressman, believes that VAT and the arrangements outlined in the document "Competition and Credit Control" issued by the Bank of England will prevent the motor trade being used as one of the country's main economic regulators in the future; this should enable Bristol Street to follow a logical plan of expansion. The sales rate of small and medium vans continued at an increased level during the year. Truck sales dropped from 76,099 in 1970 to 65,654 in 1971.
