Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• White Arrow Express has agreed to introduce a pension scheme for all its workers, following talks with the Transport & General Workers Union.

A money purchase scheme will come in on 14 December, covering about 2,500 employees, T&G national secretary Danny Bryan, who has been pushing for improved pensions in the industry for some time, describes the move as a victory for the union.

Pensions have long been a bugbear in the haulage industry, with many companies providing inadequate pensions or failing to provide one at all.

A number of other transport firms are expected to bring in pension schemes as the T&G continues its drive: NFC is talking to the union about improvements to its own pension scheme, but there has not been a breakthrough yet, says Bryan.
