Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

to carry the appropriate permit even while travelling between depot and port in the UK? We have a tramping permit which our drivers normally exchange at the port, but I am told that this is not now permissible.

A The Goods Vehicles (International Road Haulage Permits) Regulations 1975 came into operation on February 1, 1976. These regulations state that, in general, goods vehicles may not be used on certain journeys without an international road haulage permit being carried on the vehicle or by the person in charge of it.

The journeys concerned are those between the UK and Austria, France, Germany and Italy including that part which is undertaken within the UK.

There are a number of exemptions which r ef e r generally to what is being carried, or particular types and classifications of vehicles. If you require to confirm that your vehicles must carry a permit you should obtain a copy of the Regulations, price 20p, from HMSO or through a bookseller.
