Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I have been employed as a bus driver for the past 12 years; during this time I have been in the habit of driving for a local haulage and plant hire operator on my rest days, two days a week during the period February 2 1969 till February 1 1970. I was employed on a Class 1 artic, two days a week for five months, and on a Class 3 vehicle two days a week for two months.

Would this enable me to claim exemption from the hgv driving test? If so, would I qualify for a Class 1 or Class 3 licence? If I am otherwise able to claim exemption, am I nevertheless now too late to do so, as my ordinary driving licence expired on March 1, 1971?

AYou are not too late to claim exemption from the hgv driving test despite the fact that your ordinary driving licence expired on March 1, 1971.

What may be doubtful is whether the Licensing Authority will consider your experience of two-days-a-week driving sufficient to justify the grant of a licence. The same applies to the question of which class of licence may be granted. It is entirely at the LA's discretion.

We suggest you make an application setting out your experience and see whether the LA is prepared to grant you a licence.
