• More than a year after his first application was received by the Yorkshire LA, a Leeds wholesale greengrocer, Mr M. Safdar, was finally granted a full-term 0 licence in respect of one vehicle when he appeared at a public inquiry in Leeds on Monday.
The LA, Maj-Gen Sir John Potter, heard that Mr Safdar had first applied for an 0 licence in March 1970 but had only been granted an interim licence because DoE vehicle examiners had been unable to trace his whereabouts. In October that year Mr Safdar was refused a second application after he failed to attend a public inquiry and on December 12 1970 vehicle examiners once again failed to contact him or inspect his vehicle.
However, on June 9 this year the vehicle was eventually examined and found to be in a reasonable condition although it was discovered Mr Safdar had been operating it after the interim licence had expired, for which offence he was subsequently fined £25 on June 25.
The LA was told the vehicle would be maintained at a commercial garage where a weekly maintenance inspection would be carried out and the appropriate facts recorded, and he granted Mr Safdar a five-year 0 licence.
