IT'S A LONG time since David Lowe, now a transport consultant, was on the staff of CM, and it's 11 years since he first brought out The Transport Manger's Handbook. The present edition (Kogan Page, £13.50) is 615 pages.
This 12th edition has been revised and updated to provide the latest information and advice on current regulations and legislation relating to all aspects of heavy goods vehicle operations. There are new chapters on Northern Ireland operations, passenger vehicle operations and additional information on tachographs.
The handbook explains the current transport law in everyday English so that transport managers know exactly where they stand on subjects such as dangerous load requirements, driving hours regulations, fleet car operations, lighting requirements, vehicle maintenance, and many more.
The book is illustrated with numerous diagrams, road signs and markings, with reproductions of the forms and documentation with which transport managers have to deal.
