French trial

AS part of a re-examination of the EEC rules for driving hours, France is allowing commercial vehicle drivers to drive for 10 hours on three days a week.

ABOUT 4,700 Civil Servants are employed exclusively on administering vehicle excise duties, said Dr John Gilbert, the Minister for Transport, in the Commons. Local authority staff were also engaged on such work, he added.

The estimated total cost of collection of duties in 1975-76 was £36.9m, and the estimated yield £773m.

Vehicle output

NOVEMBER production of 28.2 thousand units was 16 per cent below the 1964 monthly average, while average output in the three months September to November was 10 per cent down.

Production for the home market in September to November was 25 per cent below last year's monthly average while output for export was nine per cent higher.

THE VALUE of operating ownaccount fleets will be questioned at a seminar to be held at the Cafel Royal, London, on February 4.
