AS a result of the census of earnings taken by the Ministry of Labour last July, it has been shown that, as compared with a similar census taken in October, 1938, the percentage increase in the case of goods road transport was 35.7, and in the case of road passenger transport 21.4.
• FABRICS FOR CONSTRUCTING VEHICLE GAS BAGS PrHE President of the Board of Trade recently said, in reply to a question, that in view of the limited amount of cotton available for civilian purposes, it was not desirable to give special facilities to allow makers to obtain cotton fabrics for the production of gas bags for private motorcars, but .6.10 ' under the rationing scheme local authorities and concerns making bags for them could obtain fabrics without coupons. He was also prepared to allow the supply of such fabrics without coupons to makers who could furnish evidence that they were producing gas bags for other essential transport services.
