the theme of an advertising feature published in Commercial Motor in June last year to mark the opening of the massive new Godfrey Davis truck centre at Alperton near Wembley.
Over 200 truck operators were invited to a special display on the opening day, which was appropriately named by the organisers "A Day to Remember". Everything that visitors on that day saw, heard and read underlined the fact that this was not merely a large truck sales operation nor just a big new workshop area, but truly a truck complex providing a complete service for any size of truck operator. Now fully operational, the promised truck body and paint shop incorporate eight self-contained paint booths complete with hot air circulation and extraction. Each booth is 40 feet long and 20 feet wide and the complete shop covers an area of 16,000 square feet.
Peter Olde the Truck Paint and Body Shop Manager says, "We are particularly proud of our paint booth heating system. The basic principle consists of independent air handling units giving a spray room temperature of 75°F and allowing an airflow of 16,000 c.f.m. or 60 air changes. Warm air is supplied via low pressure hot water heated coils fed from an oil fired boiler giving a much greater degree of control of spray room temperature and preventing internal fluctuations whilst spraying is in progress." is no more than seven miles from London's Marble Arch.
