• Another British success in the distribution of key EEC Commission posts is the appointment — announced in Brussels on Friday after considerable speculation — of Mr Raymond Edgar Michel Le Goy as director-general for transport.

In this role Mr Le Goy, at present a senior ,official in the Department of Trade and Industry, will be responsible for formulating compromise proposals on the controversial lorry weight and size issue.

Mr Le Goy, 53, is an Under-Secretary at the DTI in charge of one of the Civil Aviation divisions.

For the last four years he has been one of Britain's chief negotiators on landing rights and facilities for British aircraf at foreign airports and reciprocal arrange ments for the airlines of other countries.
