Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The presentation to Sir Reginald Wilson (CM, last week) of a certificate of honorary membership of the RHA was more than a pretty gesture—and it certainly wasn't one of those cynical attempts to make sure of having "friends at court".

The wording of the certificate is very much to the point: "the national executive council of the RHA . . . unanimously elected Sir Reginald Wilson an honorary member of the Association in recognition of his eminent position in the road haulage industry and of his substantial contribution to its unity, stability and integrity over a number of years."

Stability, unity, integrity: things the road transport industry is wise to cherish today.

Sir Reginald was in great form at the presentation, earning warm support from his RHA audience for assuring them that he would never be a party to civil war in road transport, and for his offer of help "from the sidelines".
