Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Company bus employers had talks with Ministry of Labour officials on Tuesday about their pay negotiations for 100,000 drivers and conductors.

This followed a meeting of the National Council for the Omnibus Industry at which they agreed to start negotiations once points in the recent Incomes Board report have been clarified.

The PIB has recommended a single negotiating body for both the municipal and company busmen; a weekly bonus of lOs should be paid to help the spread of oneman buses; and the gap of 2s 2d between company and municipal basic rates for drivers should be eliminated.

It was also suggested that a 12s "urban bonus" should be paid to company drivers to compensate for service payments in the municipalities (local authority drivers get from lOs to 30s a week).

Employers have criticized the Board for going beyond its terms of reference and they were seeing Ministry officials to see how far the findings committed their hand in future negotiations.
