Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Wage, Labor

• The standard working week in road haulage will be cut from 41 to 40 hours from February 26--but hauliers are warned that they will have to absorb the 3.3 per cent cost in greater efficiency.

The Minister of Labour issued this week the statutory RH order confirming the change recommended by the Wages Council. It also confirmed the rise in drivers' basic subsistence allowances from 20s to 23s a week.

Mr. Ray Gunter referred to the PIB report warning that reduction in the working week should be accompanied by a reduction in actual hours worked; hauliers would be quite wrong to try to recoup the higher wage bills from their customers.
