riE range of Secol vehicle loading and mechanical handling equipment made by Service Engineering Co. (Northampton), Ltd., has been extended by the addition of the Vanloader Major hydraulically operated vehicle tailboard loader. This unit is intended for fitting to the rear of boxvan bodies and has been developed from a lighter unit.

Capacity of the new loader is either 10 or 20 cwt., and one or two hydraulic rams are incorporated according to the requirement. The rams are housed in the roof of the body to which the loader is fitted, and raise the tailboard through twin roller chains or cables located at the sides of the rear opening of the body. The lifting arms for the tailboard travel in vertical guide channels.

Models suitable for all makes of vehicle are said to be available and the hydraulic system can be powered from a power take-off, unit on the vehicle's gearbox or from an electrically operated unit.

Stacking Track

THE latest addition to the range of stacking trucks from Powell and Co., Burry Port, Carmarthensh ire, is the Vertostacker. It is an electrically operated, pedestrian-controlled unit and has a capacity of 2,000 lb. at a load centre of I ft. 8 in. The Vertostacker has three forward and three reverse speeds, controlled through a bar-typeplunger in the head of the steering handle. The handle also carries the switches for raising and lowering the lifting forks.

Telescopic masts are employed and models providing lifting heights of 6, 8, 10 and 12 ft. are available. The corresponding overall heights with the masts lowered are from 4 ft. 10 in. to 7 ft. 10 in.

Two electric motors are employed for propulsion of the unit and a third motor provides power for the hydraulic pump for the lifting forks, The standard battery used is an Exide 24 v., 183 amp.hr. unit. This is mounted on rollers foreasy removal.

When fully laden the Vertostacker is said to have a maximum speed of 2.7 m.p.h. and the ability to'climb a 1 in 10 gradient.

Wall Charts

L"RICATION charts for a wide range of Leyland goods and passenger models are now available from the Service Literature Department of Leyland Motors, Ltd., Chorley, Lancs. The models covered include the Atlantean, Titan, Octopus and Super Hippo ranges.

All the charts measure 2 ft. 6 in. by 1 ft. 11 in. and cost 3.6d. each. Improved Seat

ANEW driving seat for passenger and goods vehicles has been developed by A. W. Chapman, Ltd. It is called the Leveroll A.D.— the A.D. means anatomical design — and is said to have been designed after extensive research and the study of physiologists' reports.

The new seat will fit any of the range of adjustable seat mechanisms made by A..W. Chapman and is available covered in hide. moquette or plastics material. The cushion and squab are free from piping around their edges, which should improve the life of the seat. Cushioning materials used on the seat are supplied by the Hairlock Co.. Ltd.

Improved Joints

A PUBLICATION entitled " Densochrome Prevents Galvanic Carrosion "has been produced by Winn andCoales, Ltd., Chapel Road, London

S.E.27. This describes Densochrome tape and the system by which it is used to protect steel-to-aluminium joints. Many applications in various industries, including vehicle bodybuilding, are also dealt with.
