A DRIVER FOR Welsh firm TDS Morgan Freight (Deeside) has been awarded a Diploma of Honour by the International Road Transport Union for his outstanding services as an international driver.

Jon Owen Thomas, who has been employed by the Flintsh ire firm for 16 years, regularly travels all over the UK and Europe. He was the only UK driver among 913 safe drivers from 24 countries to be honoured in this year's list.

Thomas says: "It was a big surprise — I had no idea until I was given the certificate. It's nice to be appreciated."

TDS MD Stuart Butterworth says he is delighted that Thomas's achievements have been recognised by the IRU.

Nominees must have driven at least a million miles without an accident over a minimum of 15 years and have committed no serious violation of Customs, traffic or admin regulations during the past five years in any of the countries they have driven in.
