Buffaload soldiers on with 10 used Scanias

Ely, Cambridgeshire-based temperature-controlled specialist Buffaload Logistics has taken delivery of 10 used Scania R420 6x2 tractor units from Scania’s Lincoln dealership. The 2008 models, with approximately 400,000km on the clock, are all fitted with mid-lift axles and will be used on night trunking work for a major retailer. It brings Buffaload’s total fleet size to 33 vehicles. Buffaload head of operations Matthew Dunford says the firm is also about to open a new 15,000ft2 cold store in Huntingdon, which will be used for cross-docking and consolidation of outbound products.

Fegan gets tyred of cheap rubber

County Down haulier Fegan Transport is to run its fleet on Continental tyres after a trial on one of its bulk trailers. Martin Fegan, owner of Fegan Transport, says the firm was using Chinese tyres that had been coming onto the market because they were cheaper, but in some cases it had to take the tyres off the vehicles after just 40,000km. “From that trial, we found that we would be wise to use Continentals more extensively,” he says.

Ben Evans picks Mercedes-Benz Actros

Vehicle exporter Ben Evans Commercials has taken delivery of a new model Actros from Mercedes-Benz dealer Road Range Commercials based in Liverpool. Ben Evans will use the vehicle with a low-loader trailer to collect used vehicles for export.

It’s Volvo time for RJ Hill

RJ Hill Haulage has bought its first ever Volvo six-wheeler. The Honiton, Devon-based aggregate tipper runs nine other vehicles but says it was attracted to Volvo for the first time because it expects reduced fuel costs and superior ground clearance. It was supplied by Truck and Bus Wales and West and will be serviced by Stuarts Commercials of Exeter.
