• In this week's issue of Commercial Motor you'll find a wallchart on the proposed Working Time Directive. The chart has been produced in association with BRS and employment expert Keith Hearn of Leeds-based solicitors Ford & Warren. it lists all the regulations currently on the table proposed by the European Commission and European Parliament for mobile and non-mobile workers, as well as the management issues related to those proposals.
Following representations from the UK haulage industry some of the proposed regulations—notably an eight-hour work limit for night workers—are currently being discussed and may be amended when the directive is finally adopted at the end of this year or early next year. However, rather than wait we have published our guide now to show readers what is being proposed. When the definitive directive is announced by the Commission we will report on any changes and publish a "patch" with the final rules if necessary that can be fixed over this chart.
