II Michael Moody, managing director of Grimsby-based MD Moody International Ltd, has been jailed for four months after pleading guilty to conspiring with drivers to falsify tachograph charts. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 towards the costs of the prosecution.

Six of the seven drivers involved were each fined 21,000, while the seventh, who denied conspiracy but admitted falsifying a tachograph chart, was fined 2250.

The defendants had all pleaded guilty at Grimsby Crown Court as long ago as August 1999, but sentence had been adjourned pending a decision of the Court of Appeal in another case (CM19-25 August 1999).
