Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Multi-drop deliveries are meat and drink to a huge crosssection of the haulage industry; any attempt to gauge the size of the sector is doomed to failure. In fact, multi-drop should probably not be regarded as a discrete sector at all as it is simply the method by which operators can deliver small consignments to their respective destinations in the most effkdent way.

For this reason it is unlikely that any operator harbours a desire to "get into" multi-drop operating. Nevertheless, those who are taking on more of this work—or simply find it increasingly onerous—would probably benefit by speaking to the following organisations: • Road Haulage Association represents operators in all sectors. Call the Helpdesk on 01733 201131, or speak to Clhrys Rainpley on 01932 039905.

• Transport Centre for London administers the London Lorry Ban. Visit the web site at www.tcfl.gov.uk. For information on enforcement contact Christopher Hudson-Gaol on 0207747 4762. For information on permits contact Linda Walker on 0207747 4770.
