AYMENTS of compensaon to victims of hit and run rivers are to be upgraded ccording to Junior Transport linister Kenneth Clarke.
In a written reply to a Parliatentary question from Robert 1cCrindle (Brentwood and Onar) the Minister said that under long standing agreement the totor Insurers' Bureau pays Dmpensation to injured parties cases where it can be 3sumed that had the driver een traced, he would have een liable for damages.
The Bureau made 1,030 Nerds in 1979 at a cost of 2.3m. The special procedure ir small claims of up to £3,000 hich was introduced in 1978 as proved helpful in speeding p. settlements and is to be exTided to apply to claims of up £10,000," said Mr Clarke.
