PETER REDFERN, managing director of Quinton HazeII, commenting on the Minister of Transport's intention to legislate for mandatory fitment of underrun bumpers, said that he expected this to fall in line with the draft EEC regulations due to come into force for new vehicles in October 1981.
However, the bumpers will have to be three to four times as strong as the existing Code of Practice type if they are to meet with the proposals.
