IN SPITE OF the current market slump, Leyland Vehicles al keeping most of their workforce on full time.

Of the total 23,000 LV workforce, some 6000 at Albion and Bathgate will go on short-time on August 18 (after the annual works shutdown). Those affected will work one week on /one week off for one month when the situation will be reviewed The 1500 employees in Scotland not affected are those involved in forward projects.

A Leyland spokesman said that Bathgate and Albion have been hit because a high percentage (between 50 and 70) of total production is exported and these markets have been ir fluenced by the strong state c the pound.
