BETTER SECURITY, especially in tracing stolen vehicles and vehicles used in crimes, could come from a different and better 'number plate system, according to lain Mills MP (Conservative, Meriden).
He made the point in the House of Commons after Transport Minister Norman Fowler noted that the present registration system comes to an end in July 1983, and he was inviting ideas for a new system.
Mr Mills' idea would be taken into account when the representations were being considered. It was intended to have as wide a consultation as possible on that matter.
