Ma. D. E. DAviss was presented with a silver tea and coffee service last week in appreciation of his services as secretary of the old C.M.U.A. South Wales division. He is at present South Wales secretary of the T.R.T.A. and the P.V.O.A.

MR. E. H. MCCONNELL, the Northern Ireland manager of George Cohen Sons and Co., Ltd., the well-known metal merchants and parent concern of the 600 Group of Companies, has been awarded the M.B.E. for his activities during the war in arranging for the export of many tons of scrap metal from Ulster to Britain. After serving David MacBrayne, Ltd., for 54 years, MR. JoHN MAcDotsTALD, manager at Portree, has retired.

MR. A. R. BEDELL, A.M.I.Mech.E., A.M.I.A.E., A.M.Inst.T., chief draughtsman to Leeds transport department, has been appointed assistant rolling-stock engineer to Huddersfield Corporation.

MR. E. H. W. COOKE, who joined the board of Hooper and Co. (Coachbuilders),-Ltd., early in the war, has resigned. SIR BERNARD DOCKER, K.B.E , J.P., has been elected chairman, and MR. ALLAN HALLY has been appointed managing director. Mr. Allan Hally is the son of MR. GEORGE H ALLY , managing director of the Daimler Co., Ltd MR. S. k ENNEDY, a director of Thomas Tilling, Ltd., and 14 other companies, has been appointed chairman of the Public Transport Association for the ensuing year. He has had a long and varied experience of road transport in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, as well as in the United Kingdom. He is a member of the council of the Institute of Transport, the Tilling Association, Ltd., and the National Council for the Omnibus Industry.

MR. H. G. STARLEY, C.B.E., F.I.M.1., chairman of the Motor Industry's Jubilee Committee, is, together with the other members of this Committee, to be congratulated most heIrtily upon the success of the Cavalcade in Regent's Park, the Exhibition at 148, Piccadilly, and other noteworthy events which have already taken place. They augur well for the reception which similar cavalcades in other important centres will receive. Mr. Starley is a man of dynamic energy and well deserves the congratulations showered upon him.

MR. A. W. NEW EY, who, since April, 1942, has been assistant director (export) of the Tyre Directorate at the Ministry of Supply, has been appointed export manager for Henley's Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. At the Ministry of Supply, Mr. Newey was responsible for the co-ordination and supply of all essential tyre requirements for the whole of the Eastern hemisphere, including the authorization of all export licences. His work also included co-operation with the tyre industries of Australia, South Africa and India. He visited South Africa for the Ministry in 1944 and again in 1945. Mr. Newey has had over 20 years' export experience in the tyre industry, starting at Fort Dunlop in 1924. In his position as export manager he will represent Henley's Tyre and Rubber Co.; Ltd., on the Tyre Executive Committee of the Rubber Export Group and will continue to serve as a member of the sub-committee, providing liaison with Government Departments.
