Ceva drivers are New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) accredited, which means they're trained and authorised to erect signs and barriers, and tested and examined on substation access.
Experienced drivers can take an in-house E.ON qualification to enable them to carry out work in the vicinity of live lines. Drilling and first aid qualifications are also available.
Chris Walton, Ceva general manager for E.ON, says: ''There are a lot of different dimensions to this contract, the customer can be in very different types of locations, and the demands on the team can be varied, Transporting signs and barriers might only need a van. But to erect a pole, a driver might have to park a truck next to a field and operate a crane, "Alternatively, a job might be on a busy main road in an urban area, say, where some lighting needs fixing and where parking is difficult. The top priority in all of this for us is health and safety."
