Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Rikki Chequer reveals how TruckNet UK can be both a social tool and a business tool...

"It's nothing but a talking shop, a load of drivers moaning and complaining." I've heard this comment about drivers' forums many times over the past few years. Unsurprisingly, this gripe rarely comes from people who are registered with or actively contribute to such websites.

TruckNet UK is one of those few websites that manages to be both a social media and a B2B networking tool. More and more, owner-drivers are using the website to extend their contacts within the industry. Using information provided by their peers from around the country (and beyond), they can make business decisions based on facts and experiences they couldn't gain quickly or easily from any other source.

In these difficult times, work is rarely openly advertised instead, it is passed on through word of mouth. The more extensive your network of industry contacts, the more chance there is of that decent job reaching your ears (or screen, in this case). Some operators are even using the private messaging system on the forums to band together and get work for themselves winning contracts that wouldn't be suitable for a small fleet or one-man band on their own.

The social media side to the forums is the major pull for the internet user. Many start by using the general discussion forums, others by using the specialist forums in areas that are not directly related to their everyday business (such as the 'Old Time Lorries, Companies and Drivers' forums). Only then do they realise the benefits of networking with more than 10,000 other industry professionals.

Sites that promote community and networking are increasingly being targeted by all sectors of business. Association with a vibrant, healthy community focused on a business sector is fast becoming recognised as the best way to promote brand recognition and loyalty.

It seems just about everyone wants to get in on the act and for once the transport industry is not the one lagging behind. TruckNet UK has been around for over nine years, growing in members and traffic all the time. It has evolved to become the multi-faceted online community for the transport industry.
