• Reefer operators throughout the UK and Ireland have been hit by the collapse of Irish meat processing giant United Meat Packers, in receivership with debts of ZIr47m (£44m).
UMP has six plants in Eire — 50 Irish hauliers are owed EIr500,000 (£467,000) and will boycott new owners unless they are paid. UMP's Ulster plant has been sold to Topping Meats and Clonmel Chilling Company.
Its closed Anglesey plant is administered by Price Waterhouse which is seeking a buyer worldwide.
Plants at Lockerbie and in Shropshire are closed but not in receivership.
